Kaple vystavená v letech 1748-1749 navazuje na starší stavební práce v areálu, prováděné dle plánů Jana Blažeje Santiniho-Aichela. Výtvarně, ikonograficky a částečně i materiálovou skladbou však představuje samostatný projekt, tvořený zřejmě již novou generací umělců a řemeslníků . Přestože byla kaple v minulosti opakovaně v havarijním stavu a byla minimálně dvakrát zásadně rekonstruována, podařilo se nalézt řadu původních prvků a povrchů, které vypovídají o původní podobě a ikonografickém programu této svatyně.
